The Osun State Police Command has arrested 10 suspects in two separate operations involving alleged violent crimes in Modakeke and an invasion of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree. The arrests come ahead of Saturday’s governorship election in the state, with police continuing investigations into the incidents.

Four suspects — Olufemi Olatunji, 39; Ajayi Idowu, 31; Akingbala Oluwakemi, 40; and Adekunle Basirat, 40 — were arrested around 2 a.m. on Aug. 9 following a petition to the Commissioner of Police. They face allegations including conspiracy, attempted murder, assault occasioning harm and unlawful possession of prohibited firearms. Police searches reportedly recovered a locally manufactured cut-to-size firearm from Basirat’s shop and a pump-action gun from Oluwakemi’s residence.

In a separate operation, six suspected members of an unlawful society were arrested following reports of an alleged invasion of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, during which two students were injured. The suspects were identified as Ajoba Akorede, 27; Adam Oseni, 27; Ogunrinde Ayomide, 21; Ogunlana Muheez, 26; Ajose Noah, 25; and Adeniyi Damola, 25. Police said Akorede and Oseni confessed to belonging to the Aye confraternity, although investigators have not established whether they are students of the institution.

Police spokesperson DSP Abiodun Ojelabi said all 10 suspects remain in custody and are assisting with investigations. The command said the cases would be prosecuted after investigations are completed, while efforts are continuing to arrest other suspects allegedly connected to the Modakeke incident.
