Over 20 Killed, Several Injured in Fresh Plateau Attack

More than 20 people have been killed and several others injured after heavily armed gunmen attacked Binper community in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State. Residents said the attack occurred between midnight on Monday and the early hours of Tuesday, August 18, 2026, with the assailants moving from house to house.
An eyewitness, Daniel Musa, said the attackers forced their way into homes and attacked residents while they were asleep. He said more than 20 deaths had been confirmed by Tuesday morning, while several others sustained serious injuries and some residents remained missing.
Another resident, John Dalyop, described the incident as terrible and called on the state and Federal Governments to strengthen security in vulnerable communities across Mangu and other parts of Plateau State. He said injured victims had been taken to nearby hospitals, while community members were working to account for those still missing.
Security personnel were reportedly deployed to Binper on Tuesday morning to restore calm and prevent further attacks. However, efforts to obtain an immediate response from security authorities were unsuccessful at the time of the report.
