PHOTOS: Teargas as protesters defy intimidation to demand #EndBadGovernance, hardship

Nigerian youths have trooped out across the country to demand an end to bad governance, defying intimidation by security agencies and pro-government protesters.

In Lagos, protesters started their march from the Ikeja area, while others slowly gathered at the Freedom Park in Ojota.

In the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the demonstrators initially gathered in front of the MKO Abiola Stadium where a court order on Wednesday, has restricted them to. However, some recalcitrant protesters reportedly made forceful entrance into the Eagles Square–the original place of schedule for the protest, before being chased off by stand-by police officers who fired teargas at them.

Though streets in Kaduna have been deserted, youths in their thousands were said to have besieged the palace of the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, to express their displeasure over the hunger and hardship in the country.

Hundreds of youths came out to the streets in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, and mobilised to the Government House, where they were addressed by governor Siminalayi Fubara. Also in Calabar, the Cross River state capital, protesters turned out in large numbers to add their voice of frustration to the cost of living crisis in the country.
