Police Bust Alleged Organ-Harvesting Ring in Nasarawa, Arrest Four
Nigerian police say four suspects, including medical professionals, were arrested over allegations of recruiting vulnerable young people for illegal kidney removal and document falsification.
The Nigeria Police Force says it has uncovered an alleged organ-harvesting and human-trafficking network operating in Nasarawa State, leading to the arrest of four suspects. The arrests were reportedly carried out by operatives of the Special Tactical Squad during a sting operation in Auta Balifi, Karu Local Government Area, following intelligence about the group’s alleged activities.
Among those arrested were individuals identified by police as an alleged recruiter and medical professionals connected to the investigation. Police allege that the network targeted vulnerable young people, particularly those facing financial difficulties, and persuaded them to undergo kidney-removal procedures in exchange for money. The allegations remain subject to investigation and legal proceedings.
According to the police, investigators are examining claims that victims were recruited under false or misleading circumstances and taken to medical facilities for procedures. Authorities also alleged that documents, including identity and consent records, may have been falsified to facilitate the suspected activities.
The case has raised serious concerns about the exploitation of economically vulnerable people and the importance of stronger oversight within medical and transplant systems. Police said the alleged network specifically preyed on young people who could be vulnerable to financial inducements and manipulation.
Investigations are continuing as authorities work to identify other individuals who may be connected to the alleged network. The Nigeria Police Force said it would continue efforts against human trafficking and other forms of exploitation, while ensuring that anyone found responsible faces due legal process.
