Police Nab Suspected Armed Robber, Land Grabber in Ibadan
Soka operation yields firearms and ammunition as suspect allegedly provides leads to other gang members

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested Arowolo Ademola Adeyemo, popularly known as “Demmy,” over alleged involvement in armed robbery, land grabbing and other violent crimes in Ibadan. He was arrested during an intelligence-led operation by the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Oyo Base, in the Soka area at about 2:45 a.m. on Aug. 15, 2026.
According to the command’s spokesperson, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, operatives moved to a suspected hideout after receiving credible intelligence that members of a criminal syndicate had gathered there. Adeyemo was arrested during the operation, while a subsequent search led to the recovery of one fabricated English pistol, one long single-barrel gun, nine rounds of 9mm live ammunition and nine live cartridges.
Ayanlade said the suspect allegedly confessed during interrogation to participating in land grabbing, armed robbery and other violent offences. Police said the information provided by Adeyemo has opened new leads that could help investigators identify other members of the syndicate and establish their alleged involvement in related crimes.
The command said investigations are continuing as operatives work to identify and apprehend other suspects linked to the criminal network. The latest arrest forms part of the Oyo police command’s intelligence-driven efforts to tackle violent crime and improve security across Ibadan.
