Police Probe Gunmen Attack on Rivers Traditional Ruler
One suspect arrested as police investigate shooting, injuries and property destruction in Finima

The Rivers State Police Command has commenced an investigation into an attack on the Amadabo of Finima Community in Bonny Local Government Area, HRH Dagogo Brown. Gunmen reportedly invaded the community during a cultural masquerade display on Saturday and opened fire at the traditional ruler’s palace, forcing him to narrowly escape death.
The attackers allegedly destroyed property and injured several residents during the incident. The violence reportedly followed disagreements over cultural rites, masquerade displays and the right of families to perform certain traditional activities within the community.
Police spokesperson ASP Blessing Agabe confirmed that one suspected member of the gang had been arrested and was providing information to investigators. She said efforts were ongoing to apprehend other suspects still at large, while a police detachment had been deployed to restore order in the community.
No death was recorded in the attack, although several residents reportedly sustained gunshot wounds and machete cuts. Bonny Local Government Chairman Abinye Pepple condemned the violence and destruction of property, calling for an impartial investigation and urging displaced residents to return home as security operatives continue efforts to maintain peace.
