Police Rescue Kidnap Victim After Gun Battle in Edo

32-year-old man freed after security operatives force kidnappers to flee into forest

The Edo State Police Command has rescued a 32-year-old kidnapped victim, Oboharekpe Muhammed David, following a coordinated operation by police and other security agencies in the South-Ibie area of Etsako West Local Government Area. David was reportedly abducted by four armed men at Ibienafe Village on August 20, 2026.

Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Patrick Daaor, directed security personnel to commence a search-and-rescue operation. The team, led by the Divisional Police Officer of South-Ibie Division, tracked the suspects into a forested area where they were sighted in the early hours of August 21.

A gun battle reportedly ensued after the kidnappers opened fire on the approaching security team. The superior firepower of the operatives forced the suspects to flee deeper into the surrounding terrain, abandoning the victim. David was rescued unhurt and taken to a hospital for medical examination and necessary attention.

The police said efforts have been intensified to track down and arrest the fleeing kidnappers. CP Daaor commended the security personnel involved in the operation and urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information that could assist in apprehending the suspects and preventing further criminal activities in the state.
