Sack IGP now, #EndBadGovernance protesters tells Tinubu, say demands not yet met

Organisers of the #EndBadGovernance protest  have asked President Bola Tinubu to sack the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun.

According to the organiser of the protest, the demand for the sack of the IGP is over the killing of peaceful protesters across the country.

During a candlelight symposium in Lagos on Friday, held in honour of the victims of the protest, the organising committee of the #EndBadGovernance called for the removal of the IGP.

They held a banner that read “Nigeria mourns,”  “sack the IGP for the senseless killing of peaceful protesters,” and “President Tinubu meets all demands now”, TheCable said.

On Wednesday, the committee had in a statement, declared three days of mourning for those killed nationwide during the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protest.

“Arising from a closed-door organisers’ meeting today, Tuesday, 6 August 2024, we have declared three days of mourning in Lagos State to honour our fallen colleagues across the country who were killed by trigger-happy police and security agents during the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protest,” the statement reads.

“The three days of mourning will commence on Wednesday, 7 August, with an X Space and end on Friday, 9 August 2024, with a public symposium and candlelight procession.”

Amnesty International had said it received reports that protesters were killed by security agencies in different states.

The organisation said its findings showed that security personnel at the locations where lives were lost deliberately used tactics designed to kill while dealing with gatherings of people protesting hunger and deep poverty.
