Son Arrested After Allegedly Hacking Mother to Death in Ondo

A man identified as Samuel Akoade has been arrested by the Ondo State Police Command for allegedly hacking his mother, Olufunke Akoade, to death in Ore, headquarters of Odigbo Local Government Area. The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at about 5 p.m. in the Powerline area of the community.
According to the police, the deceased was found lying in a pool of blood at her residence with deep machete wounds. Officers from the Ore Division responded to the report, secured the scene and recovered a machete suspected to have been used in the attack.
The police said the suspected assailant initially fled before Samuel Akoade was later arrested following efforts by operatives. His arrest has allowed investigators to begin further inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the killing.
The remains of Olufunke Akoade have been deposited at a mortuary, while the suspect remains in police custody. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Akure, with the Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu, directing that the investigation be conducted thoroughly and professionally.
