TCN says power supply to Lagos dropped by 350MW due to faulty transmission lines

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has said that a major fault on its Omotoso-Ikeja West 330 kilovolt (kV) transmission line has led to a major reduction in the electricity supply to Lagos.
According to a statement on Tuesday, TCN’s general manager (GM) of public affairs, Ndidi Mbah, stated that the transmission line snapped between towers 420 and 422 on March 9, causing a drop of approximately 350 megawatts (MW) of bulk electricity supply to the state.
Mbah noted that Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) and Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) were affected.
“This temporary drop in bulk power supply has caused significant load shedding within the Eko and Ikeja franchise areas,” said the GM.
“TCN has mobilized its engineers to the site and conveyed necessary materials to repair the snapped sections of the 330kV Omotoso – Ikeja West transmission line.”
The TCN boss stated that repair work will be completed within three days, after which the full bulk power supply will be restored through the transmission line route.
He offered apologies for any inconvenience caused to the government, EKEDC, IKEDC, and consumers of electricity in the City of Excellence.
Our correspondent recalls that on Monday, EKEDC and IKEDC said the power supply disruption in Lagos was occasioned by a “fault in transmission infrastructure” of the TCN, leading to load shedding.
