Troops Recover 3,120 Litres of Stolen Crude Oil in Rivers Forest
Nigerian Army troops have uncovered suspected illegal oil-refining operations in Rivers State, recovering thousands of litres of crude oil and equipment during an anti-oil-theft operation.
Troops of the 6 Division, Nigerian Army have uncovered a suspected illegal crude-oil refining site during operations in a forest area of Rivers State. According to Daily Post, the operation resulted in the recovery of about 3,120 litres of suspected stolen crude oil, alongside equipment believed to have been used for illegal refining.
The discovery forms part of ongoing military operations aimed at tackling crude-oil theft and illegal refining in the Niger Delta. Security forces have continued to target hidden refining locations in remote forest and riverine areas, where criminal networks can operate away from major population centres.
The recovery is significant because crude-oil theft remains a major challenge for Nigeria’s petroleum industry. Beyond the direct loss of petroleum resources and government revenue, illegal refining can contribute to environmental pollution and damage to ecosystems and communities across oil-producing areas.
