We are ready for ‘tough’ Libya clash – Eguavoen

Super Eagles interim coach Austin Eguavoen says his team is ready to face Libya in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying game on Friday.

Eguavoen speaking at the pre-match press conference on Thursday, said the Eagles will strive to maintain their top position in Group D by picking all the three points in the game.

Nigeria picked four points from their first two matches in the qualifiers, beating Benin Republic 3-0 at home, after which they played 0-0 with Rwanda in Kigali.

“Same approach like every other game. Game 1, Game 2 is gone, we’ve put them behind us, we are ready for game 3 and we take every game seriously, we are at home like we are aware, nothing short of three points, so it is going to be very tough. We are trying as much as possible to stay steadfast where we are, so three points is at stake and up for grabs and we are ready for it,” he told journalists .

The Eagles held most parts of their final training session  on Thursday evening behind closed doors. The team takes on the North Africans at the Godswill Akpabio International Stsdium in Uyo, before the return leg in Bengazi next week Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has rejected claims of poor treatment in the country by Libya captain Faisal Al-Badri.
The NFF insisted that the Libyan Football Federation made their own arrangements and encountered challenges therein.

This followed allegation by Al-Badri who claimed his team was subjected to a thorough search by the Immigration, checkpoints and unpalatable conditions at their hotel.
