We’re proud of you, you have not disappointed us, Lagos Imam tells Tinubu
The Chief Imam of Lekki Central Mosque in Lagos, Ridwan Jamiu, has said President Bola Tinubu has not disappointed the expectations of Nigerians.
Presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, said this in a statement that the chief imam spoke on Friday during a sermon at a Jumah prayer attended by Tinubu.
According to Onanuga, the imam said Nigerians are proud of Tinubu.
“We are proud of you. I remember that we encouraged people to vote for you during the campaigns. We thank God that you have not disappointed us,” Onanuga quoted the imam as saying.
“We know you are capable. We know you have the sagacity. We know you are competent. We believe and pray that you are not going to disappoint us. May Allah continue to be with you.
“Allah has entrusted Nigeria to you and will ask you for this trust. Remember accountability and responsibility to the people. Responsibility is to the people, and accountability is to Allah when you return to Him.
“You bear one of the names of Prophet Muhammad, Ahmed, someone who does what is praiseworthy. This name has been reflected in your past actions, and we hope it will reflect in your actions now.”
The President arrived in Lagos on December 18 to spend the festive season, shortly after presenting the 2025 budget to the national assembly.
Tinubu cancelled all public engagements last Saturday, including a boat regatta in Lagos, to honour victims of recent stampedes in Oyo, Anambra, and the federal capital territory (FCT).
On December 23, Tinubu hosted his first presidential media chat at his Ikoyi residence and has since been receiving private visitors as part of the holiday festivities.
