Shaibu calls Oshiomhole “my father”, kneels before him during APC defection

The reinstated Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, described former governor of the state, Adams Oshiomhole as his father and knelt before him during his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) last weekend.

Shaibu had been facing what many described as persecution from his principal and governor of the state, Godwin Obaseki, since he made jnown his intention to succeed him in office.

The situation forced him to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and while announcing his defection in Benin City the state capital, he went on his knee before Oshiomhole, who is the senator representing Edo North Senatorial District.

“My father, Comrade Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole,” Shaibu said as he clung to and knelt before the senator.

“I want to assure our national chairman and all the people of APC that we have come to add value and it is time to take our state back,” Shaibu said.

Shaibu’s defection came less than 24 hours after he said his spirithad left the PDP.

He rejoined the APC with leading members of the Dan Orbih-led Legacy Group.

Last Wednesday, a Federal High Court in Abuja presided over by Justice James Omotosho nullified the removal of Shaibu as deputy governor of Edo.

The judge held that Shaibu’s impeachment violated the provisions of the law.

The judge ordered Shaibu’s reinstatement and directed the inspector-general of police to restore his security.

On April 8, Obaseki, governor of Edo, announced Omobayo Godwins as his deputy, hours after the impeachment of Shaibu.
