Chidimma Adetshina Makes History as Miss Universe 2024 First Runner-Up
Chidimma Adetshina, Nigeria’s dazzling representative at the 73rd Miss Universe pageant, celebrated a historic achievement after finishing as the first runner-up in the glittering competition held on Sunday in Mexico City.
The excitement was palpable as Nigeria and Denmark faced off in the final moments at the Arena CDMX. While the crown ultimately went to Miss Denmark, Victoria Kjaer Theilvig, Adetshina’s stellar performance secured her place as the first Nigerian to ever reach the prestigious first runner-up position.
Following the pageant, Miss Universe Nigeria shared an interview brimming with Adetshina’s elation and pride. “I’m overflowing with excitement!” she exclaimed. “Words can’t describe how I feel, but I’m incredibly proud of myself! We made history!”
Adetshina’s triumph came after fierce competition amongst 126 contestants, representing the rich tapestry of cultures from across the globe, with a notable presence of 18 African nations. The judges and audience alike were reportedly captivated by her exceptional grace and performance.
However, Adetshina’s path to the Miss Universe stage wasn’t without hurdles. Earlier this year, she withdrew from the Miss South Africa competition due to a nationality controversy, despite reaching the final stage. This setback couldn’t dampen her determination. Shortly after, she received an invitation to represent Taraba State at Miss Universe Nigeria, where she emerged victorious.
