Flying Eagles draw Egypt,Senegal, Mozambique in 2023 U-20 AFCON
Tough ties await Coach Ladan Bosso's Nigerian side
Tough tests await the Flying Eagles of Nigeria, who have been pitched to face hosts of next year’s Under-20 African Cup of Nations, Egypt, Senegal and Mozambique.
Given that they were drawn alongside Egypt in Group A at the biennial competition, the Flying Eagles will face a keen examination of their championship credentials..
According to the draw held in Cairo, the Flying Eagles are in a challenging pool comprising four-time winners Egypt, Senegal and Mozambique. All teams pose major worries for the Flying Eagles, given the evolving nature of the game of football, where there are no longer minnows.
The Flying Eagles are in Group A with Egypt, who won in 1981, 1991, 2003, and 2013, as well as Senegal, who finished second in 2015, 2017, and 2019, and Mozambique, who are making their second appearance in the competition.
However, Nigeria, is competing in the tournament for the 12th time and has won seven titles. Although, the Flying Eagles missed the 2021 event. Coach Ladan Bosso will have his work cut out as he goes about the task of coming up with the strategies that will ensure the Flying Eagles qualify from group A and go on to pick one of the tickets to next year’s FIFA Under-20 World Championship.
Egypt will also be under pressure to perform at home in their 12th tournament, and after not competing since 2017, they will be eager to win back the title they last held.
The 17th AFCON 2023 will hold from February 19–March 12, 2023.
