INEC oversees airlift of BVAS machines to states ahead of 2023 general elections
With the clock gradually ticking down ahead of the eagerly anticipated 2023 general elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has supervised the transportation of the bimodal voter accreditation system (BVAS) machines to states of the federation.
According to the election umpire body, INEC chairman, Mahmood Yakubu was at the Murtala Muhammed international airport in Lagos, on Wednesday, to personally witness the airlift of the BVAS machines.
In several photos shared on the commission’s social media pages, INEC said the development is part of its readiness assessment ahead of the elections scheduled for February and March 2023.
Packed in cartons and sealed, the BVAS machines, which were not in use during the last general elections in 2019, were transported by Nigerian Air Force aircraft.
TMYNewsapers reports that for the first time in five general elections, the name of President Muhammadu Buhari would not be on the ballot boxes for the presidential election, holding in February 2023.
Bola Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Atiku Abubakar of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party and Peter Obi of the Labour Party are the three main gladiators slugging it out to succeed Buhari when he vacates the presidency in May, 2023.
