Lookman open to Atalanta exit in January

Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman is reportedly eager to leave Atlanta in the January transfer window and could be available for €30million.

Lookman had wanted to force an exit in the summer after agreeing personal terms with Paris Saint-Germain but Atalanta blocked the move and opted to open contract extension talks instead with the winger. The Nigeria international was a key figure for the Italian club last season.

He scored 17 goals, including a hat-trick in the final of the UEFA Europa League against Bayer Leverkusen to lift their first-ever European title.
According to transfer expert Florian Plettenburg, Lookman is still looking forward to a new challenge and could ask to be released in the January if the right offer comes along.

“Ademola #Lookman is still open for a new challenge. Understand that a move in winter is possible. Atalanta president Percassi blocked a transfer of the 26y/o versatile striker this summer. Price tag for a possible move next window: €25-30m. Current contract valid until 2026,” he wrote on X.

Plettenburg stressed that one of the reasons why Atalanta did not allow Lookman leave last summer was the lack of time to find a suitable replacement.

The 26-year-old was said to have agreed €4.5million pre-season deal with PSG before the intended move fell through. Lookman was rewarded for his impressive display last season as the only African on the list of 30 contenders for the 2024 Ballon d’Or award set to hold later this month.

The former RB Leipzig player is also a major contender for the 2024 CAF player of the year award.
