Meet versatile Ghanaian artiste, JJ Gonami

Ghanaian singer, Jacob Gonami Kordzo Agbenuvor, professionally known as JJ Gonami, is an expression of multi-dimensional talent. His skills cut across the spheres of entertainment as it is known in the contemporary entertainment industry.

Also know as Dr. Gbekui, JJ Gonami is an artiste, a sound engineer and an entertainer. He hails from Tegbi Agbedrafor– Keta in the Volta Region of the West African nation. His sort of talent is strange and there are other uncommon things about him as well.

The entertainer’s name, “Gonami”, is a word derived from the “Ewe” language in Ghana, which simply means “Give way”. It was given to him by his late grand mother, Emma Kporvi, who was also a musician. Much more, JJ Gonami has proven that it runs deep in the family, and the name given by his late granny is a testament to the virtue being passed to him.

JJ Gonami is one of the streams of Ghanaian singers who have achieved rare spotlights on the continent and around the world. Though his lyrics are in his native language, “Ewe” and English language, he still very much appeals to a global audience who are knowledge curious about the native language.

JJ Gonami is essentially classified as a multi talented musician due to the various musical styles he possesses. He started music officially in 2014, when he released the mind-blowing hit song, “Dzidzorkporkpor”, (Happiness). He followed up with other incredible hit tracks like “Sorpii”,  “Doviame”, “Ghetto”, “Gbekui”, “Memorge”, “ABI”, among others. The songs still resonate among his fans in Ghana and across the globe.

One of his outstanding stage performances was in Senegal on February 11, 2023, when he dazzled at the African Music Revolution Tour which held in Dakar, African Renaissance Monument. JJ Gonami shared the stage with multiple Afrima Awards winner, Iba One, Mohammed VJ, Kayawoto, Paco Briz, Ntosh Gazi, Mr. Seed, Ngaaka Blinde, Mist Cash, Emma Cheruto, Rj the Dj, Dj Ylb, Dj Zeyna Senegal, and other colleagues from Africa.
