The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested a 48-year-old businessman, Nwankwo Onyebuchi, with 1.55kg of cocaine at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. The cocaine was allegedly concealed inside the walls and railings of his luggage as he prepared to travel to India. NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy Femi Babafemi disclosed the arrest in a statement on Sunday.

The agency also reported a series of major drug interceptions that it said had a combined value of about ₦3.6 billion. The seizures were recorded during operations targeting drug trafficking activities in Lagos and other parts of the country, as operatives continued efforts to disrupt networks involved in the movement of illicit substances.

The latest airport arrest adds to recent major NDLEA seizures in Lagos, including the interception of 6,778.5kg of Canadian Loud at Apapa Seaport. The agency has said its operations increasingly rely on intelligence-sharing and collaboration with other security agencies to track international drug trafficking networks.

NDLEA officials said investigations into the latest cases are continuing, with efforts focused on identifying other individuals connected to the suspected trafficking networks. The agency has repeatedly warned against the transportation and distribution of illicit drugs and pledged to prosecute suspects in accordance with the law.
