Notice of Arewa protest surfaces online after Onanuga’s allegation against Obi

A letter addressed to the Inspector General of Police by Northern Initiative for Growth, regarding a peaceful protest on August 1, 2024, has surfaced online.

This comes after presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, accused candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, of sponsoring the upcoming planned protests across the country.

In the letter titled: “Notification of planned protest and request for maximum security”, written by the northern group to the IGP on July 16th, the group said demonstrations which will hold across the north states on the said date, is aimed at drawing “attention to critical issues affecting the region and advocate for positive change”.

“We urge you to direct all State Police Commissioners in Northern Nigeria to provide maximum security and maintain order during the protest. We emphasize the importance of upholding the constitutional rights of protesters and refraining from using unconstitutional force against them,” the letter read.

This comes after Onanuga’s accusation of Obi on Saturday.

Onanuga alleged that the organisers of the planned protest were the same individuals who “hijacked” the #ENDSARS protest of 2020.

However, Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR) said the claim is “falsehood and wicked.”
