Patience Ovo to Bring ‘Queen Idia’ to the Big Screen

Renowned Nigerian filmmaker Patience ‘Ovo Okhuofu is poised to make a significant impact on the global film scene with her upcoming historical epic, “Queen Idia.”

The film, which is set to begin production later this month, delves into the life and legacy of the legendary Benin Kingdom queen.

Ovo, who has garnered acclaim for her short film work, is taking on the roles of producer, director, and executive producer for “Queen Idia.” She is joined by her sister and colleague, Patience Oghre Imobhio, as the assistant director.

“Queen Idia” promises to be a visually stunning and culturally rich exploration of the powerful woman who played a pivotal role in shaping the history of the Benin Kingdom.
Currently based in New Jersey, Ovo’s passion for storytelling and her deep connection to the region’s history have fueled her drive to bring this epic tale to the screen.

“I was born and raised in Benin, and I’ve always been fascinated by the stories of Queen Idia and other remarkable figures from the kingdom. I want to share this incredible story with the world and show people the strength, courage, and resilience of women,” she said.

The production team is currently seeking additional funding to support the film’s ambitious vision. They aim to release “Queen Idia” both domestically and internationally, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Nigeria to a global audience.
