The Plateau State Police Command has arrested another suspect in connection with the alleged mob killing of Ibrahim Pilasar Mbaya, a University of Jos (UNIJOS) graduate and model popularly known as “Ibee.” The latest arrest brings the number of suspects in custody to four as investigators continue probing the circumstances surrounding the 25-year-old’s death after he was accused of stealing an iPhone 12.

Police said the newly arrested suspect is believed to have played a role in the assault that led to Mbaya’s death. The victim was allegedly attacked at an apartment in the Ring Road area of Jos after returning to answer questions over the missing phone. Investigators said he was subjected to hours of torture by a group of youths before he was eventually taken unconscious to the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), where he was confirmed dead.

The case has sparked widespread outrage across Plateau State and beyond, with family members, friends and civil society groups demanding justice for the slain graduate. During police interrogation, some of the earlier suspects reportedly admitted participating in the assault, while investigations remain ongoing to establish the full extent of each suspect’s involvement. Authorities have assured the public that anyone found culpable will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The Plateau State Police Command urged residents to refrain from taking the law into their own hands, stressing that criminal allegations should always be reported to law enforcement agencies for proper investigation. The command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring justice for Mbaya and warned that acts of mob violence and jungle justice would not be tolerated.
