A 100-level student of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Rumuolumeni, Rivers State, was reportedly shot dead on campus Wednesday by suspected cultists. The incident occurred just 48 hours after rival groups were involved in a shooting spree at the institution, heightening tension among students and staff.

Details surrounding the latest attack remained sketchy at the time of the report. A source close to the victim said the student was rushed to a hospital, where doctors attempted to remove bullet fragments lodged in his body. The source added that the victim’s friends were raising money to fund the surgery.

The earlier clash on Monday reportedly involved suspected members of the Vikings and Ku Klux Klan cult groups, who were said to be engaged in a supremacy battle. Police had yet to issue an official statement on the latest shooting as of Wednesday evening.

Following the incident, the university management suspended all remaining activities for its Students’ Union Government Week and directed students to return to their classrooms Thursday, Aug. 13, for normal academic activities. The institution also warned students against actions that could threaten peace and security on campus.
