Sanusi, Bayero continue rivalry in Kano despite court ruling

Muhammadu Sanusi II and Ado Bayero have continued their rivalry as 15th and 16th emirs of Kano, as both led separate prayers on Friday, despite the ruling of the court.

According to Daily Trust, the Emirs observed Friday congregational prayers at the Central Mosque and Nassarawa mini palace respectively.

A Federal High Court sitting in Kano, presided over by Justice Abdullahi Liman, had on Thursday, declared the action of the state government to declare Muhammadu Sanusi as the new emir illegal. However, the court stated that the ruling does not affect the Kano Emirates Council (Repeal) Bill 2024.

Rhe actions taken by the state governor on May 23, 2024 included the deposition of the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, and the reversal of the status of the emirs of Bichi, Rano, Gaya, and Karaye emirates to that of district heads, following the collapse of their emirates into Kano Emirate.

Based on the law, the governor had also re-appointed the 14th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, as the 16th Emir of Kano.

Moments after the ruling, the Kano state government said it has concluded plans to demolish and renovate part of Ado Bayero’s palace.

According to a report. Caterpillars and bulldozers were quickly mobilised to the palace for action.

The roads behind and beside the facility have been restricted to vehicles by security operatives manning the entrance and exit points.
