Trump says Russia will face ‘severe consequences’ unless it agrees to end Ukraine war


US President , Donald Trump has said there will be “very severe consequences” if Vladimir Putin doesn’t agree to end the war with Ukraine after Friday’s summit in Alaska
Trump also says there is a good chance of a second meeting with the Russian president, which could include Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky
After a call with Trump and European leaders, Zelensky said the US is “ready to support us” and told the US president that Putin is “bluffing” about the impact of sanctions
Meanwhile, German Chancellor Merz said the priority was securing a ceasefire, adding Ukraine’s allies should increase pressure on Russia if it doesn’t agree
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer pledged continued support for Ukraine and thanked Trump for bringing Putin to the negotiating table
