Bill to amend Electoral Act passes second reading in House of Reps
A bill seeking to amend the Electoral Act has passed through a second reading in the House of Representatives.
Sponsored by Francis Waive, the bill proposes that the general elections be held on the same day to save money and time for Nigeria as well as prevent the bandwagon effect.
The amendment also aims to make electronic transmission of results mandatory and punish persons who file frivolous petitions with heavy fines to bring down the number of cases that would end up in court.
If passed, the amendment will cause the Independent National Electoral Commission to carry out a fresh registration exercise for all voters that are eligible to vote and be voted for.
