Buhari apologises to Nigerians over naira redesign policy
As the naira continues to be unavailable for the masses to get at banks and POS agents, President Muhammadu Buhari has apologized to Nigerians over the naira redesign policy.
Buhari said it wasn’t introduced to inflict hardship, but to improve the economy.
TMY Newspapers recalls that in October 2022, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, announced the plan to redesign the N200, N500, and N1,000 notes.
The CBN also fixed February 10 as the deadline for the use of old naira notes and that resulted in a scarcity of the currency.
According to a video clip uploaded on social media by the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna state, Uba Sani, Buhari said: “I apologise to you for the hardship caused by the change of the naira.
“It was done to boost the economy of the country, not to cause hardship to anybody.”
