Court stops police from arresting Ehie over Rivers House of Assembly explosion
A Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has granted an ex-parte motion filed by Edison Ehie, Chief of Staff to Governor Sim Fubara, against the Nigerian Police.
Ehie had requested the court to stop the police and other security agencies from arresting, detaining, or harassing him over his alleged involvement in the explosion at the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Presiding Judge, Justice Sika Aprioku, after granting the order, adjourned to February 6th, 2024, for a hearing of the substantive application.
The Martins Amaewhule-led lawmakers had written a criminal petition against Ehie to the Rivers State Police Command over the invasion and arson attack on the chambers of the State Assembly by unknown hoodlums.
In the petition, the Amaewhule faction of the House of Assembly had asked the police to arrest and prosecute Ehie for his alleged involvement in the fire incident at the Assembly Complex on October 29, 2023.
