2026 World Cup: Super Eagles hopeful after Zimbabwe change venue of South African contest

Sequel to the formal protest by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to FIFA, Zimbabwe have now changed their home match against Bafana Bafana out of South Africa.

Recall that the NFF complained to FIFA that South Africa were given an unfair advantage in the qualification race to the 2026 World Cup as their final four qualifiers will all be played in South Africa.

This is because both Lesotho and Zimbabwe picked South Africa as their home grounds after their own stadiums were not approved to stage the World Cup qualifiers.

On Tuesday, Zimbabwe announced that they have changed their home ground from South Africa to Rwanda for their World Cup qualifier in October.

Zimbabwe earlier played the qualifiers in Rwanda before they picked South Africa, were they recently held Benin Republic to a 2-2 draw.

The three other qualifiers involving Bafana Bafana will be played in South Africa , against, Lesotho, Super Eagles and Rwanda.

South Africa top Group C with 13 points from six matches.
