Despite police ban, Sanusi holds Sallah Durbar in Kano
Muhammadu Sanusi II, the 16th Emir of Kano, held a Sallah durbar on Sunday, despite the ban by the police command in the state.
The Emir was said to have earlier led the Eid prayer and sermon at the Kofar Mata Jumu’at Mosque, which was due to a heavy down pour which flooded the premises of the Eid ground.
The state governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, as well as his cabinet members, observed prayer with the Emir, according to Daily Trust, while the army, police and civil defence provided security.
The royal father stopped occasionally along his way back to his palace on horse back, to receive greetings and homage from people and groups.
The state governor had reportedly frowned at the police command’s ban on Sallah durbar in the state, after a joint security meeting in Kano.
But governor Kabir expressed dissatisfaction with the decision, faulting how the police arrived at such without consulting him as the chief security officer of the State.
Deposed emir, Aminu Ado Bayero, reportedly observed his Eid prayer at the Nassarawa mini palace as earlier announced, after announcing cancellation of durbar activities.
